Shadowing

Rutgers TASA offers a 6-month Shadowing Program intended for students interested in running an organization and promoting Taiwanese culture. Shadowers take part in TASA’s meetings, helping to plan activities, facilitate ideas, and execute events. The program is designed to develop professional skills and facilitate a transition of outstanding Shadowers to potential Executive Board members in the following academic year.

TASA: For you. By you.

The TASA Shadowing Program offers opportunities for you to learn more about Taiwanese culture and develop professional skills.

At the end of the program, Shadowers will plan their own Shadower’s event that often ends up becoming some of TASA’s best events!

Applying to become a shadower was the best decision I made in my freshman year

“I’ve experienced a plethora of exciting nerve racking, stressful, but overall memorable moments that had made me love TASA more than how I originally would’ve thought. The people are great, always making me crack a smile or giggle at the dumbest types of jokes, and as a shadower, I was able to experience the best of both worlds: how a real organization is ran and how college students can balance it with their own personal lives. It has definitely been an experience that I would never forget and has given me the tools to want to strive to further progress the organization, as I see it has a brighter future ahead of it. Overall, being considered. a shadower allowed me to develop life-long bonds with people in only a few months, and allow me to witness how much people care for the organization. I love everyone, TASA, and what it will become and if I had the choice to be a shadower again, I would 100% take it again LOL”

“Shadowing was one of the best parts of my freshman experience. Joining TASA felt like joining a family and I was able to make lifelong memories and friendships. One of my favorite memories was the shadowers’ dance at nightmarket. The dance really pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to get closer to my fellow shadowers. Overall, the passion and commitment that I developed for TASA while as a shadower led me to run for an eboard position because I knew that I wanted to make a long-lasting mark and continue to be surrounded by the people that I called my TASA family. TASA RIDE OR DIE!”

“Through the program, I have met my closest friends in college and have made many fond memories. I’m not Taiwanese but I felt welcomed by the E-board members and Shadowers. Being part of TASA really does feel like family. Although my shadowing experience were cut short due to the pandemic, I was able to help plan GIMs and attend ITASA East Coast Conference at UMD, which have been rewarding experiences. I recommend this program for people who want to find a tight knit community at Rutgers!”

TASA's shadowing program exceeded my expectations! I had improved way more than I expected! Being a shadower allows me to meet people who are passionate about Taiwanese culture, gain professional experience, and push me out of my comfort zone. People in TASA are super welcome and supportive, which makes me feel like I have a second family at Rutgers. Being a shadower, I get to not only experience the process behind how the events are planned but also learn valuable skills outside of the classroom. Furthermore, I have become more confident because TASA allows me to experience and explore new things. Overall, I would say TASA's shadowing program is an amazing experience, and I would 100% recommend applying!!

I was initially intimidated knowing how big this club was, so joining the shadowing program was a big step out of my comfort zone. However, all the eboard members welcomed me with open arms and helped me grow throughout the program. This six-month shadowing program was one of the best experiences I’ve had at Rutgers, where I could embrace my culture, develop professional skills, and, most importantly, meet a group of supportive and passionate people. It fascinated me not only how much people love this club but also the effort they put in just to perfect each event. TASA became my second home, and I would recommend this program to everyone.

TASA is not just an organization to but a family. Here I have a network of support and advice that I can go to at all times. I’m constantly learning and growing and most importantly laughing. The jokes and fooling around are endless. I’ll look back at my college days and appreciate my time in TASA for sure.

As a freshman, I just wanted to try new things and meet new people. I attended so many clubs from dance to soccer to business clubs. They were all great, but at TASA I was not only able to find a community but a family that challenges me professionally and helps me grow emotionally. My freshman year would not be the same without TASA and if I could do it again without a doubt I would join this family again! :)
